Why do they make that?

21 08 2009

As you may or may not know, many top designers like to extend beyond apparel in their designs. I’m not talking about shoes, or jewelery, or even makeup. Take a look at some of the most random things I could find that are made by our favorite designers. Pictures at the end.

Chanel has had a “sport” line for some time now. It has featured things from fishing poles, to snowboards, to the most insanely chic bicycle you have ever seen. I’ve never really questioned the line because, well.. It’s Chanel! But when I saw that they were marketing a boomerang, I couldn’t NOT say anything. I just don’t understand how this came about. I’m not even sure that boomerangs are used much in Australia anymore. It seems like sort of a waste, especially at an estimated $15,000. Everything else featured in the sport line, while extravagant, is still functional. Skis, tennis rackets, and aforementioned items are at least somewhat practical. But this, this is just a little much.

Another pretty ridiculous item that I’ve come across is Yves Saint Laurent’s new brand of cigarettes. They are menthol 100′s, and from what I have found, they are about $20 per pack. If you smoke, you know for a fact that no one in their right mind would pay that much for a pack of cigarettes. it seems a bit insane to me that they would make these luxury cigarettes, and actually expect people to buy them. But I guess all the Hollywood starletts will just eat it up.

The final random designer item on my list is the Dolce & Gabbana Gold RAZR cell phone. Only 1000 of these phones were made worldwide. The outer casing is made of machine-cut gold and has the designer name plastered all over it. It is hard to find information on this product because it was so rare, but I’m sure that it was definitely not cheap. Sharon Stone and Hilary Duff are the only people that I’ve heard about even owning this phone. Hils actually featured it in her music video way back when. The cell sounds super cool, but if you ever had a RAZR, you know that they are pretty much crappy phones. Mine got cancer and died, and I’ve only heard of a few people that actually enjoyed their RAZR problem free. Maybe D&G should have chosen a more quality product to brand their name across.

Maybe the desginers should just stick to making clothes, but maybe that’s just me. Would you spend money on any of these items if you had it?

Steven by Steve Madden-Phedra

It’s shoes like these that make me wish guys could wear heels. Women, you are some lucky bitches.

These peep-toe booties are to die for. They feature a textured leather upper and leather sole, however the zipper detail in the back is what sets these shoes apart. I’m not so sure about the function of the zipper, but the fashion is superb. These 4.5 inch gifts from God would be perfect with that little black dress, or to glam up a more casual look. I’m thinking skinnies and a tank with a scarf, or some layered necklaces. Oh! Perfection. And they come in red? Steve Madden is still working it out.

Available online now for pre-order at $179.95.

Michelle Obama is wearing shorts! This is an outrage!

19 08 2009

First lady Michelle Obama was seen stepping off of Air Force One wearing “short shorts”. After the controversy over her sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez dress, which she wore in February, ans her madras shorts, which she wore while walking the family dog, this is just another case of America getting all worked up over nothing. She looks good in everything that she wears, so we shouldn’t have any problems with it. If we saw a flash of nipple, or her butt-cheek was hanging out, there would be a problem. But other than that, leave her alone.

I understand that some people may not know what the term “short shorts” means, but seriously. Get over it. If any American mother saw her teenage daughter in these shorts, she would probably be overjoyed. They are so conservative and not the least bit “inappropriate”. And Michelle has a nice pair of legs for someone her age. I would want to show them off too.

And, the family was on vacation in Arizona for goodness sake. Did people really think that she was going to wear pants? I think America needs to focus on the bigger issues in their own lives, and stop nit-picking every little thing the first family does, just because they’re still pissed that Obama won. They are an active family and Michelle is dressing the way she needs in order to facilitate that lifestyle. I’m sure she didn’t even think twice when she decided to wear that outfit, and I don’t think America should have said anything at all about it.

Tyra Without a Weave?!

18 08 2009

Yesterday,  world renown [ex?]super model Tyra Banks tweeted that she will be hosting her talk show on September 8 sans her weave! “[N]o ponytails, no ballet bun head. [H]air will be out and free!” I don’t know if she is going to have it flat-ironed or at least styled, or if its going to be au naturale. All I know is that if she comes out looking like Buckwheat, I’m probably going to cry a little bit. Not to say that I wouldn’t respect her for being so open with her viewers, but come on. You’re one of the most famous fashion models in the history of the business. Vanity is your game, play it well.

To bide your time, here are some photos of the weave-queens many different looks. I think my favorite is her short, fifties-ish look. Its gorgeous on her, but then again so is pretty much anything.

D&G Men’s Summer 2010

17 08 2009

It looks as if D&G has taken inspiration from the wild west in their summer 2010 collection. We see brown leather belts, plaid shirts, and rustic studded denim. It may sound a little trite and over used, but I think that this is a much fresher, cleaner take on cowboy chic.

First, we have a studded denim jacket. I think that they really pulled this one off. It was a tough task, but I think it was executed quite nicely. Granted, I wouldn’t wear this, but I still appreciate it.

Next, it’s the return of leather pants! There are so many issues with leather pants, but you know what, they’re Dolce. So, for some reason they look good. Perhaps its because they’re on this model. But, I’m not appaled by them, so I guess we’ll keep them.

This leather jacket is to die for! Its not the ugly leather jacket that the douche bag that went to your high school wore. It’s fitted in all the right places, without being too feminine. The snap and zipper pockets are just enough without being too gaudy, and the slightly distressed leather gives that rugged look. This jacket is a definite winner!

Next, we dress it up a little with this 3-piece camel-colored suit. The six-button vest really pulls in the western theme, but still keeps it fashionable. There isn’t much to say. This is just a great suit with a little bit of a fun twist. Great look!

Lastly, we have a bit of a trainwreck. I’m not trying to offend anyone, or discredit D&G’s design genius. I just don’t think the ensemble works together. The shirt is pretty loud on its own, but when you put it with the destroyed, rolled up jeans AND the tall leather boots, it’s just too much. I’m sure all these pieces are just fine on their own, but together… not so much.

These are all just my personal opinions. I am by no means a fashion professional, I just know what I like and what I don’t. Feel free to tell me how you feel about anything I’ve said. I appreciate any constructive criticism.
